Personal Information Texarkana Trial Lawyer: James W. Smith Texarkana native James Smith was admitted to the Texas and Arkansas State Courts in 2004, and joined Dunn, Nutter, & Morgan that same year. Drawn by a love of competition and the challenge of confronting and solving new problems, he finds the practice of law exciting. Mr. Smith earned a BBA degree in marketing in 1999 and an MBA degree in 2001, both from Texas A & M University in Texarkana. He earned a JD degree from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock School of Law in 2003. He finds his business background helpful in expanding his perspective in the practice of law. Mr. Smith is an avid NFL football fan, and he enjoys recreational reading. He is a member of the Texarkana College Fencing Team, and he enjoys fencing as a physical work-out, as recreation, and as competition. His law practice focuses on general civil litigation. In addition to his memberships in the Arkansas and Texas State Bars, Mr. Smith is a member of the Texarkana Bar Association, the Arkansas Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the Texarkana Young Lawyers Association, and the Inns of Court. He is an active participant in the Texarkana Teen Court, which allows young people ages 13-17 accused of speeding, low-level shoplifting, and other very minor crimes to be prosecuted by and defended by their peers. Sentences typically involve community service and always required service as jurors in subsequent Teen Court proceedings. Mr. Smith very much enjoys his role in Teen Court, recognizing it as a valuable learning experience in both law and life for the young people involved.
